Many video ads can leave the audience cold, or get them interested in something other than the product they are endorsing. Video advertising is not always all it’s cracked up to be, and it’s generally because the pictures and sound do not inspire a person to buy. Some cutesy television commercials don’t even make it clear what they are advertising. Marketing your book by way of video can be good or, if done in the wrong way, detrimental to sales.

A favorite type of marketing your book in advertising videos is to present something that seems to have no relevance to the product, but is enticing to the viewer. In just a few seconds, the seller has to take the prospective buyer from the draw to the sale. In many cases, advertisers are able to work this to their advantage and the numbers go up for the product they are pushing.

However, with the expense incurred for network or other broadcast spots, a miss on an advertising idea can be a catastrophic mistake. You will notice, at the big events of television, advertisements are usually paid for by large conglomerates that have products that are successful to begin with. They have the required funds, it’s just a matter of them staying in the public eye.

Less expensive videos that appear on YouTube can also be a two edged sword, but the difference is how the buyers get to the video. If it is linked to your website, you already have someone who was interested enough to come there so you have one foot in the door.

The key is to use every source at your disposal when marketing your book. Videos can be a good addition to a promotional plan because so many people are more attracted to visual ads than they are to reading. Just be sure to make the video a positive sales tool.
